In Sudan, the Friedrich‑Ebert‑Stiftung’s youth study from 2022 finds that a protracted political deadlock now coexists with an emerging youth movement that can no longer be ignored by established political actors. Rather than being portrayed merely as a reactive response to repression, Sudanese young people are documented as a distinct political force shaping the public agenda and demanding inclusion in decision‑making processes.
The research highlights youth agency and imagination: respondents articulate concrete visions for their personal futures while simultaneously expressing a commitment to broader social transformation. Disillusioned with the existing political class and having lost much faith in its ability to deliver change, they nonetheless see themselves as catalysts for a new Sudan—one where grassroots initiatives and collective action replace the stagnant status quo.
